Setting Up A Guest Room[/caption]The arrival of summer often signals an influx of visitors to your home. Ensure your guests enjoy their stay by outfitting their rooms with everyday essentials and pampering them with a few additional perks to rival the finest of resorts.
Even a small guest room can live large when you focus on luxury. Consider a featherbed to plump up a firm mattress, and invest in a high-quality set of bed linens (Egyptian cotton and pima cotton are both good choices). Multiple blankets in varying weights will allow your guests to adjust the bedding based on their preferences. Include two pillows per side of the bed in two different levels of firmness. It may help you to take up residence for a night in your guest room to see it through visitors’ eyes.
Beyond bedding, it’s nice to include a small table on either side of the bed with a pair of lamps or, for smaller spaces, wall mounted sconces. Consider adding a radio that docks and charges MP3 players, as well as a few pieces of reading material suited to each visitor’s individual taste. Mimic a resort like experience by offering travel-size bath products in case they’ve forgotten their own. Finally, layered window treatments that block out light for those early morning sunrises will ensure your guests receive a good night’s rest throughout their stay.
A personal touch we like to do is providing a bottle of wine with glasses, a rich milk chocolate bar, and fresh flowers on their day of arrival. It makes for a warm welcome and brings some big smiles to their faces.
